River Dance Lodge is surrounded by 1.1 million acres of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area. There is so much to see and do! Some of the many options include:
- Swimming: The closest beach to the resort is about 100 yards upstream. Walk carefully along the highway and you’ll see a path through the blackberry bushes that leads to a gravelly beach with marginal swimming. One mile downstream is “Old Number One” that is found where there is a paved turn-out on the highway and a concrete outhouse. This is a very nice beach with good swimming area. Going upstream, proceed to either Three Devils or Wild Goose, both of which are Forest Service areas with outhouses and picnic tables. Each has superb beaches, especially Wild Goose that has a giant beach and large swimming hole.
- Hiking: There are miles of hiking trails on National Forest land near the venue. Seven miles upriver to the confluence with the Selway and Lochsa River at the hamlet of Lowell. Turn right on the bridge that crosses the Lochsa at the confluence. Proceed up the Selway River Road, where you can access O’Hara Creek, Stillman Point, the Selway River Trail, or Meadow Creek.
- Fishing: One of the best months to fish the Clearwater River is July. Steelhead trout in the Clearwater often grow up to 15 pounds, with some weighing in over 20 pounds, and it is quickly becoming one of the most productive steelhead rivers in the Northwest.
- Hot springs: About an hour east of the venue on Highway 12 are both Weir Hot Springs, and Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, which are an easy hike off of the highway. For a day-long adventure, Stanley Hot Springs, which is about a half-hour east, is a 10-mile hike to springs which are at a 3600-foot elevation.
